@Daragh Ó Conchúir the reason this one is getting so much publicity is because no one believes a man would move from the place he is from and works to a place he doesn't have any connection with
@Terry. No pleasure in typing it. But we are not int he top 15 teams in the country. County Bd have to take a fair bit of stick, but club football is very poor too. Some of the current players are not good enough. Our structures are very poor and the great tap of underage talent that was St.Jarlath's has been switched off too.....investment in coaching/development neeed. And soon. No minor Conn Cship win since 2007. No Hogan cup @ SJC since 2002.....what did we get from the U-21 wins of 2002 & 2005?
@paul it won't happen but if it does, it should, because it's GAA rule. Remember the Walsh publicity. Don't recall him being asked for P60s, RSI numbers. Other things I can't say because I don't have the physical proof and would be leaving myself open to legal proceedings. There would be a difference in how I might view it in that Mortimer relieved himself of Mayo duties. Seanie gave CAvan nine or ten years before being dropped. Anyone read Larry Tompkins' article recently where he said all he wanted to do was play football at a top level. He was happy doing that in the States and then he had the opportunity with Cork. He lived in Cork? yeah, but would he have if he wasn't going playing with Cork?!
@Ray That under-21 team last year was one of the best I've seen. Surely time to bring in the two midfielders, however young, because Joe Bergin simply cannot cut it as the main man in the middle for Galway. Also, Finian Hanley cannot handle a big, physical full-forward
Give Alan Mulholland time, which has been in short supply in Galway, and I'd be confident he will come good. Believe we saw the last of Padraic Joyce on Saturday. Sad way to go out, if it turns out to be that way.
Anyway, Mayo's disallowed goal. Great decision by the referee
I hope to God someone has a clip of John Heslin's one-handed catch so it can deservedly go viral.
Cormac Reilly got that one spot on, Daragh. Great call for a guy who called the foul on MacLochlainn last year, despite the majority of people believing otherwise.
Heslin is some footballer, himself and Brendan Murphy close to being the best midfield in the country and neither will win a thing ever. Which makes the Johnston stuff all the more dangerous.
My winners from next week are - Kildare, Tipp, Laois and hard to call between Kerry and Tyrone. Oh yeah - where is Dick Clerkin. I backed Monaghan to beat Laois....so much for calling winners...
@Ray I'll go Antrim, Kildare, Tyrone and Laois
Heslin and Murphy are surely International Rule inclusions next year. I wouldn't be the biggest fan of the IR but in this case it can be of benefit to the smaller football counties.
@Ray Silke nice way to finish Ray, folks who were your big winners of the weekend?
And the qualifiers are great - Laois, Leitrim (I tipped them, but Wicklow shot something like 16 wides). Day in the sun. @ewan will you stop it man? Dangerous? You think this will open floodgates when all others haven't? Come on. Look at it fairly, base it on precedent... because. This. Is. Not. A. Precedent.
@john great call. Big men, who can move @ewan forgot Tipp. They're a coming team. you're going to be busy Jackie!!
@Daragh There's been no other transfer like this before so there's no precendent
Thanks folks, see ye all here again next week.
