It will be interesting to see if Fionnuala Britton has it in her legs to run a fast 5k after a testing 10k final where she couldn't go with the pace. She is definitely more suited to the longer distances. As ever, here's hoping she run to her standard, and wherever that takes her then.
She ran her personal best in this event this season, 15:15.69, so that's encouraging.
@speedy gonzalez A bit unfair. Caitriona Jenninhgs was injured during the women's marathon, but still completed it, Aileen Morisson had a fall off her bike in the triathlon and yet continued, Melanie Nocher was ill and still competed.
Orlando Ortega of Cuba and France's Ladji Docoure up next in the 110m hurdles. And we have a false start.
Kame Ali of Madagascar has been disqualified.
Looks like Doucoure of France is out after coming 4th in his heat. Ortega wins it easily.
SNAP! Arsenal have completed the signing of Spain international midfielder Santi Cazorla on a long-term contract from Malaga.
@Peter Towe @speedy gonzalez a troll I would imagine Pete. Highest achievement of the day is probably getting out of bed.
@Daragh Ó Conchúir Not even worth replying to him Daragh.
America's Jeff Porter squeezes into the next round of the 110m hurdles.
Aries Merritt powers to a win his 110m hurdle heat. The Americans look dominant in this competition.
Wonder was he born in April?
Looking forward to the final of the 110m hurdles, some really top operators. Merritt, Liu, Robles
China's Xiang Liu is the fastest this season in the final heat of the men's 110m hurdles.
Yeah, it would be nice to see Cuba get a sprint medal.
The Chinese sprinter crashes out after hitting a hurdle.
And the Polish sprinter Artur Noga pulls up before the first hurdle.
Liu hops up to Noga afterwards to take the plaudits??? Bizarre.
Disaster for Liu in the second Olympics in a row... the Achilles tendon again. PIty as it detracts massively from the final.
