@Ger I'm here for you man!
Don't know if Pete posted this already but the 49er pairing of Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern had a very disappointing 19th place finish.
Big shock in bantam, with Brazilian beating Russian. Here comes John Joe, rapping to Michael Jackson
John Joe making his way into the ring.
okay, he's not rapping. He looks up at the big screen and sticks his tongue out. Zaur Antia has a big smile. Loving it.
@dan Bannon Don't know Dan, but it is on RTE 2 television.
@Dan I don't know, I'd say so... will try to keep you updated. We're 50 seconds in.
Kanat Abutalipov is a southpaw from Kazakhstan who is generally a counter-puncher (so the experts are saying). Thing is, John Joe tends to counter-punch too. Certainly going to be tougher than the first round. Not much in the line of scoring punches yet.
Eoin Rheinisch is officially out now, he has fallen to 11th of 12. Spent around 10 minutes speaking to his coach on the shore after his 50-second penalty - something suffered by 2 others.
Jimmy Magee will be honoured by the world press assoication, the AIPS, tomorrow I believe.
John Joe starting to land some punches now.
John Joe landed a good shot at the end of the first round and leads 5-2
It is 5-2 to Nevin at the end of the first round.
Brilliant start as he is a master at defending a lead.
Great straight right by John Joe.
Mullingar man catches his opponent again.
John Joe scares his coaches sometimes because he loves to sit on a lead. But the Kazakh has to come forward now and John Joe is too quick. Landing some good shots on the back foot.
And another with his right
Referee had a word with John Joe about 'passivity' so the Cavan BC man lands right square on his opponent's nose.
Nevin is going great guns here, he must be way ahead.
Looks to me like his lead is going to be increased at the end of the second round, even if a three-point lead looked a wee bit generous at the end of the first.
10-5 to Nevin after the second round.
They had the Kazakh fella better in the second round than the first? I thought Nevin walked away with that.
Five -point lead now 10-5, he'll see this home now
@GerMc31 I agree Ger, don't know how they came up with that score.
Another beauty from Nevin.
@Pete agreed. But sure the scoring system is insane. He was very flattered to have a three-point lead at the end of the first but was dominant in the second. John Joe's a great dancer but it's some skill to be able to score going backwards.
Just ducked under a straight left but got caught with another
Beautiful right cross by John Joe. Not really producing the flurries of the last day. Kazakh lifted the head rather nastily into JJ's chin there.
Another punch to the side of the face by Nevin ends the fight.
